Corbin Parker Buhr's Birth Story

Sunday night June 11th I had contractions a lot of the night and didn't really sleep.
Monday June 12th I had some contractions throughout the day.
Monday night I went to bed but never slept. I had contractions really noticeable from 2-4am and I was wondering if this was really the time. It is kinda exhausting everynight going to bed and wondering if you are going to sleep or have a baby. And wondering everyday when you wake up(or get up) if you are going to have a baby!
At 4 am I finally got out of bed because my contractions were getting intense enough to curl my toes and I remember my Dr saying when they start curling your toes to come on in. But I didn't want to go to the hospital too early so I did a couple things around the house and got ready for the day at 6:30am. I decided to eat, but didn't know what to eat in case today was the day. (Decisions are so hard at the end of your pregnancy!) So I just ate a banana and some yogurt and drank a ton of water.
Finally I woke Pat up around 7:30 and told him I thought it was time! We got our stuff ready and he gave me a Priesthood blessing. I asked for one with both labors. I think it is a very special time for both sides of the veil and I always appreciate the comfort and feeling the spirit before labor. Part of it said that even though this would be hard it was necessary and a part of the plan and the way things worked, which made me a bit nervous but I was also told that I would be strengthened and comforted and feel once again a Mother's love :) That part was very special to me. You love your first baby so much you wonder how you will love another one and then they come and your heart just grows and you love them so so much :)
We had some neighbors come over for when Brylianna wakes up and we headed to the hospital just before 9. Thank goodness we only live 5 mins away! ( Bumps and riding in the car during contractions are the worst)

We checked in, lady behind the window "Hi can I help you?"
Me " Um, I think I'm in labor."
A nurse said she was taking us to room 6 and then at the last minute changed her mind and we went to room 5. We went in and I changed and got checked and I was only dilated to a 1 and 1/2 and 80% effaced. So we stayed for one hour to be checked again. We realized we were in the exact same room we had Brylianna in! I saw the picture on the wall of some flowers and recognized it, and we asked the nurse if the same picture was in every room lol She said she would check, and they were different so we knew it was the same room! Then the nurse said it was time to be checked again and I was scared I hadn't really progressed and we would get sent home, but she checked me and said I was at a 3! Ah, that's when it really sunk in that today would be the day! (He was due in 3 days) I was really happy I progressed that much in an hour but my water hadn't broken yet. My contractions were already getting pretty intense by now. At 1st they weren't in my back, but now I was starting to feel them in my back. ( Darn back labor) I got up a little bit and walked and swayed, but my legs were already really tired since I had been awake and pacing like all night and stood a lot with the early contractions I had had at home. So I stayed in the hospital bed for most of them. Baby boy was super active and kept kicking all the monitors they put on my stomach, the nurses eve commented on how active he was. I was getting tired and progressing very slowly. So I decided to start taking some Fentanyl to try to relax and save my strength. So I got half a dose that should last about half an hour. It was so nice and it just takes the edge off and I was able to relax a bit.

Pat asked if he could go to the sandwich room ( they have a snack room for hubby's and Pat didn't get to go to it when I had Brylianna cuz everything happened so fast) lol and I said that was fine. I had a lot of ice chips and water and some apple juice and some orange jello. But then I threw up, so I stuck with water and ice chips after that. I could feel the Fentanyl wearing off and they checked me and I wasn't progressing much and so I got the other half dose. Pat was so sweet to massage my lower back and provide counter pressure through each contraction. Everything was going so slow and taking so long I felt like! I ended up taking more Fentanyl over the next few hours and just trying to relax and save my strength. Fentanyl is less and less effective with every dose and lasts for a shorter time and they won't give it to you if they think you will deliver within the next hour.
It took forever but I finally dilated to a 7 and by then my contractions were really intense and hard to deal with each one. I also threw up again. I was really needing help focusing and breathing with each contraction and we tried a couple different positions. What ended up working best was Pat rubbing my back and the nurse would push my legs towards my hips and it helped provide counter pressure. Dr Craig came in and asked if I wanted my water broke. (I don't know why it took so long!) It was like 5pm by now. I said I did because I was getting exhausted and just wanted things to move along. It was more uncomfortable and painful than I thought it would be when she broke my water and the contractions immediately got more intense! I asked for more Fentanyl at this point but couldn't get it by now. This was the hardest part of labor for me and I really needed help breathing and focusing. Pat was so sweet and was doing all he could to help. My nurse was very helpful too. I kept feeling the urge to push but it was too soon so I really needed help remembering to take deep breaths. My cervix was in the way ( again. It was with Brylianna too) so I wasn't supposed to push yet and baby boy was coming down a bit sideways. Finally Dr Craig was able to hold my cervix more out of the way and I could start pushing. It is such a relief when you get to that point, but at the same time I have a hard time pushing for some reason. Probably because I was trying so hard NOT to push before. I pushed for about 20-30 minutes, the last few were exhausting and I feel like I always reach a point where I think I can't do it and then I just know I have too and dig deep and find the determination to do it and I wanted to meet my baby boy finally! So I pushed with all I had and my Dr made me stop when he was only like part way ( I don't remember feeling the "ring of fire" as they call it with Brylianna but I totally felt it this time) which btw is like almost impossible and is super hard to do at the moment and then she had me only push a little at a time. ( I was super grateful later though cuz this made it so I didn't tear except for a little bit) And then he was here!

Our baby boy :)
He had dark hair (which I loved) big eyes, and they handed him to me and I just held him. He was perfect. I kissed his sticky head and instantly loved him. ( I think I love our babies hair so much cuz that is the first thing the Dr's have said each time is that they could see the hair on their head and they were almost here when I was in labor. It was like the little ray of hope and light at the end of the tunnel hearing that both times lol)
Then I delivered the placenta and the Dr said I barely even tore so I wouldn't need stitches. Best new ever. Then they weighed and checked baby boy. He was 8lbs 6oz and 21 inches long. That is a big baby, I was shocked! Then Pat got to hold him ( Pat also cut the umbilical cord earlier) and it was super heart melting to watch my sweet hubby hold his son for the first time :) Then I held him again and we just enjoyed having him here. It was a long, hard labor and I might have asked for an epidural if I had known it was going to take so long. I didn't get one with Brylianna cuz the anesthesiologist was busy, so now I knew that I could do it without, but it was still difficult. But sacrifice is a funny thing and gives you a greater appreciation and love sometimes.
Then I was starving cuz it was like 8pm by now so we ordered me some food and my family was there so they got to meet him and so was Pat's mom. ( Pat's dad was watching Brylianna) We decided to name baby boy Corbin Parker Buhr.
Then we went up the the 3rd floor and were sent to room MB 28. Which guess what?! That was the exact same room we were in when we had Brylianna! Both of our babies came to this earth in the same hospital room and we were in the same recovery room. I just think that is so neat. Like what are the chances?
Baby Corbin slept so good the first night. I was exhausted, but at the same time I couldn't fall asleep after all of the excitement. I slept better than I had the 2 previous nights though since I had been up with contractions those nights. And Pat was so sweet and I'm glad he was willing to sleep at the hospital on the couch/bed and he helped me everytime I needed to get up or down and would hand me Corbin when I needed to feed him or help wake him up to eat, or reswaddle him or change a diaper. He is always so quick to help and never complains. I love him so so much and am so grateful to have him to go through all of life's adventures with.
The next day we found out I could order all the room service I wanted instead of just 3 meals a day. Needless to say I started ordering food every 3 hours. :)
The day after I have a baby I always feel like I got hit by a huge truck lol. Your whole body just kinda of hurts/aches. My upper back was so insanely sore this day, like every tiny muscles, sadly it was an effort just to pick up my big water bottle and I could feel it in my back muscles when I did so. My lower back had scabs on it where Pat had rubbed it, but they were worth it to me.
The best shower in the whole wide world is the one after you have a baby. It is like Heaven. That was like the 1st thing I did in the morning.

Pat's dad brought Brylianna over to meet Corbin today and it was so precious. The 1st thing she did was say "mommy" and gave me a big hug. She seemed so big compared to baby brother. Then we showed her baby Corbin and she sat on Grandpa Buhrs lap and held Corbin. She held him for like 15 minutes straight and kept patting him and smiled and it was the most adorable thing ever.
We stayed that night and didn't get much sleep and came home later that day.

We are so happy to be a family of four and welcome sweet Corbin into our home. He has been such a good baby so far and we love him so much! :)

Someone isn't my baby anymore!

So sweet!
First bath :)

Look at that little smile :)

Am I weird for liking hospital food? I actually really like it. It is mostly healthy and they bring it to you whenever you want it. I will miss that!

38 weeks

I'm 38 weeks and 2 days pregnant today. 12 days til baby boy's due date!
The last couple of weeks have been interesting. Pat was doing some work for his Uncle in Colorado and Brylianna and I were staying with my parents. We had some fun days and we found a little kiddie pool and Brylianna just loved it!
On Monday night I had contractions from about 11pm to 5 am and a lot of them were only 3 minutes apart! With Brylianna I didn't have any real contractions until I was in labor with her. Pat was in Colorado 8 hours away and was planning on staying for another week to work. I debated for like 3 hours wether I should call him or not. During every contraction I would be like yes I need to call him now and then it would ease off and I would be like no I'm okay. But then I finally decided I needed to call him since he was 8 hours away. So I did and he sweetly started driving home at like 2am. But then my contractions stopped about 5am and I was able to get a couple hours of sleep.
Brylianna is so smart, that morning she woke up at 8 30 and the first thing I could her was her saying "Daddy! , daddy. . . . " She hadn't done that cuz Pat had been gone for ten days, but it's like she knew her Daddy was coming home that day. ❤️ How sweet is that?!

So Pat came home and we drove back to Logan so we could be close to our hospital and of course nothing has really happened since then. I have been having more Braxton Hicks though and am dilated to a 1. But it has been nice to get things more ready for baby boy and spend some time together. We have been able to do some fun things and go to Bear Lake twice this week. Bear lake will always hold a special place in my heart since my family visited about once a year growing up, I love their raspberry shakes, I first picked up a tennis racket there, it's where I finally got to try stand up paddle boarding and Brylianna had tons of fun playing in the water. Oh and it was cute, they call your name when you are waiting for your food at the place we get shakes and they called Pat for our order, the next order was Heather, and the very next one was the name we are thinking about naming our baby boy. How crazy is that?!

I am getting pretty uncomfortable and useless lol and feeling baby boy in my hips a lot ( he loves hanging out by/ kicking my left hip area a lot). I can definitely tell all my joints and ligaments are relaxing. I have gained 32 pounds,(luckily I don't have any stretch marks yet though so I will cross my fingers that stays the same) and baby boy is just running out of room in there. Can't wait to meet him soon!

Oh and the other day I took Brylianna grocery shopping and literally pretty much every single person we passed commented on how beautiful or cute she is. (She also says "Hi!"  very enthusiastically to like everyone). And it was just funny how often it was happening and it took like 20 minutes longer lol and I just kept repeating thank you and I'm like all standing there . .all 37 weeks pregnant or whatever in whatever t shirt fits me at the moment with stains on it from #momlife sweating like crazy just from pushing a grocery cart of groceries and walking and all the daily tasks you have to do with a toddler haha 😄

Brylianna is 20 months old and just keeps getting cuter and cuter. Some of my favorites of hers right now are how she wakes up in the morning and just sweetly calls "Mommy. . . . Daddy" til we come get her. Her voice is so sweet. She loves reading books. She loves the wheels on the bus song and doing hand motions. She snuggles when she doesn't want to do something which we LOVE! Like when she thinks Daddy is going to put her to bed she will cuddle with me and not let go and vica versa haha She is getting so good at naming colors. She is starting to sing along to songs she knows or doesn't know which is just adorable. She loves the movie Moana. She loves kitties. She loves throwing rocks into water. She just wants to eat frozen fruit all day like raspberries and blueberries. She has been a Daddy's girl ever since Pat got back from being gone for 10 days. She is such a good little helper. And she loves babies 😃❤️ I am so grateful I get to raise such a sweet precious spirit. She has been such a blessing in our home and has brought us so much joy! She will be such a good big sister.
38 weeks

The Logan river is so high and flooding in areas

Pat and Brylianna brought me back one of my favorite treats.
Banana snow cones! Now it feels like Summer yay! I love it when the snow cone shops open

When Pat came home she ran to him and hugged him for like fifteen minutes straight
Cuddles and watching Moana

Sometimes she just randomly lays on the cement or asphalt

She wanted to pet the kitty so bad

Our 7 year Anniversary!! Love him!!
